A desolate canyon? The barren remnants of a once powerful river? Try the grooves of a vinyl record, magnified 1,000x by an electron microscope.

This is my vintage Wurlitzer 200 electric piano. The piano is in amazing condition for its age and sounds beautiful. A Wurlitzer used in the right context can really get a groove going.

It’s official: Soul Train is rolling into the Smithsonian. The museum just announced plans to add memorabilia from the show’s 37-year-long run to its collection. I’ll be studying some of YouTube’s Soul Train offerings to celebrate.

If you need of a dose of funk, soul or general grooviness, pay a visit to the Funky 16 Corners. It’s a near-bottomless pit of rare LPs, mixtapes and one-off tracks that you can download for your desktop pleasure. This one’s from Mac Rebennack before he became known as Dr. John.

fromme-toyou:

Must you sing of days gone byMust you always sigh Tell me why your song is sad, never glad Blue River, Blue River Do you hold the memory Of a vanished dream
Words he sang while they danced away.

The beautiful topographic grooves in this wood are created by wood-boring beetles.

Grooveshark.com is almost too good to be true. You type in the name of a band you’ve been meaning to check out, and voila! Full length albums appear, and you can listen for free. From the mainstream to the more obscure, this is my go-to place for party playlist options when I need a break from my IPod favorites.
